Sheriff David Mahoney and the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office are very excited to announce a new and improved citizens’ notification system known as T.E.A.M. – Transylvania Emergency Alert Messaging.

Sheriff Mahoney has been working very diligently in partnership with Transylvania County Emergency Management, specifically 911 Communications Director Kevin Shook, who recently had this to say about the new program.

“Transylvania County Emergency Management was contacted by the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office with a request to be able to notify citizens when certain types of emergencies arise throughout the county.  Transylvania County Emergency Management saw this as an opportunity to overhaul the current system utilized for weather alerts and major incident notifications.  The T.E.A.M (Transylvania Emergency Alert Messaging) Alerts site was gone through and updated with feedback we had already received from citizens, as well as incorporated the alerts that would focus on Law Enforcement type incidents.  We believe this partnership has brought the notification system up to date and made it more user friendly for citizens that would like to participate in it.”

The alerts will come to your cellular phone (text message) and/or email.  Signing up for the alerts is free and easy.  Simply go to this website….

You will enter your personal information and then choose the types of alerts that you will receive.  These are just a few of the categories of the various alerts:

  • Amber & Silver Alerts
  • Road Closures
  • Water Boiling Alerts
  • Act of Terrorism
  • Active Shooter
  • Escaped Prisoner
  • School Lock-Downs
  • Bomb Threats
  • Severe Weather Alerts

This program is sure to make notifying the citizenry of Transylvania County quicker and much more efficient.  We are grateful for our partnerships that made this happen.  Together, we can make our community the safest place possible to live, work, and play.
