Chris Hawkins was hired by the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office in 1991. Chris worked as a part time patrol officer and dispatcher. In March of 1992 Chris was hired full time and was assigned to the patrol division. Chris worked patrol till 1996 when he became a school resource officer. In 2000, Chris teamed up with canine Sasha and transferred back to patrol. After Sasha’s retirement Chris continued to work in patrol division as a sergeant. In 2014, Chris joined the investigation division. In 2016, with the retirement of John Nicholson, Chris was promoted to Detective Lieutenant.

Throughout Chris’ career he has been involved in many aspects of the Sheriff’s Office. He worked as Dispatcher, Patrol Officer, Patrol Supervisor, Bailiff, School Resource Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, K-9 Officer, Evidence Room Custodian, and Investigator.  Chris has taught D.A.R.E. to school children, been a certified instructor for law enforcement, organized neighborhood watch programs and served on the Special Response Team. Chris holds an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission.
